Julie and a Meiko visit Rotary
Hammond Rotary was pleased to welcome Julie Canady from Franciscan Health and her therapy dog, Meiko. Meiko has been a therapy dog since January 2016 and makes many visits per week to places like Franciscan Health in Crown Point and Midwest Youth Center in Kouts. When visiting the hospital, Meiko is able to see 50 patients per visit! Meiko had to pass a test to become certified and went through rigorous training. Julie shared stories about the impact that Meiko has when visiting patients. Another highlight of his career was visiting the Crown Point High School De-Stress Day, which involved Meiko visiting with over 300 students who were able to pet him and talk to him. Julie is hoping to expand the program to Hammond and Dyer Franciscans. Thanks Julie!
